John Hembrook - Twin Oaks Shelter, Manager A previous resident who experienced a crisis that left her 7-year-old son and herself homeless stated,
"If every resident
of Walworth County would contribute only $1.00 a year, our mission
to serve the homeless could go on without the constant stress of fund
raising." Your support is vital to the continuation of services at Twin Oaks Shelter. Your tax deductible contributions should be made payable to Twin Oaks and mailed to: Twin Oaks

About the Program |
|
| In 1992 Community Action, Inc.
became the owners of Twin Oaks Shelter for the Homeless. Since that time,
the shelter has provided housing for an average of 75 households
or 175 individuals each year. Primarily, our residents come from
Walworth County and are often individuals and families who have experienced
a crisis in their lives such as loss of housing or employment, family violence,
fire or medical crisis.
The operating expenses at the shelter exceed $180,000 annually. Approximately $100,000 of that amount must be raised from our local communities. In addition to events hosted by our fundraising committee, we rely on the kindness, generosity and concern of private individuals, churches, corporations, and service organizations to help us meet that goal. Without local assistance the shelter would not be available to serve the needs of our homeless men, women, and children. |

services aimed at assisting our residents in understanding and overcoming the problems/circumstances that led to their homelessness so they can once again become self-sufficient contributing members of their communities. In most cases homelessness is a temporary circumstance, not a permanent condition. |

How You Can Help |
||
|
There are many ways that you can help. Our primary need continues to be financial, however we also have a need for items that can help reduce our expenses, items that will help residents with their daily needs as well as items needed when they leave the shelter. Cleaning supplies, personal hygiene products, nonperishable food, fresh or frozen meats, towels, bedding, and kitchen utensils/cookware are some items that are helpful. For a list of current needs, see our wish list. Throughout the year, Twin Oaks hosts many fundraisers. Click here to find out about our next fundraiser. Although those who live at the shelter won't know you by name they will know that people are concerned and care about them. The kindness of strangers offers great hope to people who have little hope that their situation can ever be better. |
