Jack came to the Community Action mentoring group and wasn’t on the right path. He wasn’t getting good grades in school, he even had some alcohol and drug issues. He was junior in high school. He wanted to do something better with himself.

He was a star high school athlete, one of the popular kids.

He entered into the group and became a leader amongst the mentoring guys. They looked up to him. He had never applied for colleges, but decided he wanted to apply. He was accepted at Southern University of New Orleans.

He’s a freshman in college, getting good grades, on campus in the dorms.

He is the first male in his family to go to college.

Jack got Bs first semester of college, works on the school newspaper, and is involved in the African-American poetry group.

He is now working toward a social work major, and is being offered a scholarship at another university.
